Columbus 1Z0 unit problem on Superb

Featured Replies

I bought a unit which is "1Z0 035 680 A". After installation some of the functions like steering wheel controls, climatronic and navigation menu in MFD did not work. Coding the unit did not help. After all, i noticed that the firmware of the unit is 1004... So, i want to ask you:

1.Will 1Z0 035 680 A work fully if i upgrade the firmware. That is to say, if i upgrade steering wheel controls, climatronic and navigation menu in MFD will work or not?

2.Is there any possibility, after the firmware upgrade and if necessary coding, for those functions not to fully function? If it is, i think i have to sell my unit and look for different unit which will be costly and tiring for me...

Steering wheel controls and MFD will work after the firmware upgrade, but Climatronics also depends on firmware.

The latest known official firmware for 1Z0 is 904, http://www.filefactory.com/file/ahf62d2/n/rns510_900.rar (old link, may not work). No Climatronics display with this FW.

The latest unofficial firmware is 1300, http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XKXPBOHG. Everything will work but you will get a "Regensburg syndrome".

I am a little bit confused; because i thought that 2664 is the latest firmware?

No, in order of their appearance - 2660, 1200, 2680, 2700, 2720, 2760, 1300 and now 3800 (beta).

1300 basically is 2760 without voice control. If you are interested in 2760, then use this modified FW - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JG148IV6

Hi,

I've been following these threads with interest and thanks for the clarification on the versions.

How do I find out what type of Columbus I have (A/B/C?) and is there table somewhere that shows compatibility of versions?

First of all thank you for your interest...

Appearingly i have not enough information about the issue...

So; i want fully functional unit, in order to be able to use all the functions like steering wheel controls, have navigation informations on MFD etc. which version of firmware do i need to use?

Another question; i assume that these firmwares are modified or not official; so will upgrading these firmwares affect the warranty?

Last, does the latest official firmware help me about my problems?

I assume that installing a 1Z0 unit in SuperB is officially unsupported anyway, but it will be better to ask your dealer.

Lou_O: look at the labels on the top of unit, if Skoda part number starts with 1Z0 - you have revision A. If it starts with 3T0, then this is a B or C (no difference between them in firmware).

Thanks Josi,

I was hoping to get someone to plug in their VCDS and read it back, and so avoid dismantling the fascia, looks like I'll have to do it the old fashioned way.

Is there a trick to getting the unit out? I'll search on google later, there must be a 'columbus removal guide' somewhere on the web :)

My Columbus came from the factory with 1024 firmware. You can try to access the hidden menu by getting in the car and without putting the keys in the ignition turn the unit on and hold the on button down I believe, keep holding it down and a radio setup screen will appear, just keep holding it down and eventually a "testmenu" screen will appear, click on "version" and that will tell you the details of your unit. I'm not 100% sure that is the correct button to press but there are threads on here how to do so. I seem to have lost this ability to get to this testmenu when I updated my maps to V6.1 though.

The old fashioned way of dash removal is easy though. Open the ashtray and put your fingers under the trim panel which goes around the Columbus and climate control unit, gently pull the trim panel away, it is just held on by clips, and you will expose 4 torx headed screws which hold the Columbus in position. Remove these screws and pull the unit out of the dashboard. On the top of the Columbus there will be some stickers which will tell you what revision and installed firmware you have, as was fitted when it left the factory.

By the way, i got new unit which is 3T0; all the functions work fine...

Hi all,

I take delivery of a new Superb Estate on Saturday - an SE with a Bolero fitted. I originally brought a 1Z0 unit to install, but having read this topic with interest have changed it for a 3T0 SW:2720.

I had always assumed I would have to get a 3rd party to fit the Columbus, but bar the physical connections, should it be simple plug and play? Will all of the usual features continue to work on the new Columbus?
