Squeaky Heater Fan

Took my 05 Octavia Ambiente estate to the local garage, for them to have a go at curing an awful noisy fan that made a variety of different noises, the worst of which was a high pitched squeal. they where not able to fix it, although it is a little better (not as loud ), there telling me its a sealed unit, with no way of been able to lubricate the fan, although they have got some WD 40 into it. They recommend a new fan at £108 plus vat plus fitting :'( . Anyone got any Ideas of a cheaper solution ??? I was wondering if its possible to drill a hole in it to lubricate the bearing :| .
