ESP Sensor Unit G419 Malfunction

Featured Replies

Can anyone provide advice on this please?

I have an 56 Octavia Vrs and recently both the yellow tpm and esp warning lights lit up. They will not go out. ABS is working but not traction control.

As my dealer is miles away a local garage ran a basic diag which reports " Code 00493 ESP Sensor Unit G419 malfunction".

Looking around various forums, it seems a G419 is a combined acceleration sensor (lat/long) that forms part of the stability system. Audi forums suggest this is a seperate unit located somewhere in the car (under seat/dash?).

I have it booked into a dealer, but a quick conversation on the phone suggests it needs a complete new ABS control unit - as the sensors are mounted inside this sealed unit!. And of course has a whopping cost of £1000!!!!!!.....

Personally, I'm not convinced. I'm no expert, so I wonder if anyone has any thoughts / experience / comments?

I could really do without a bill for a grand right now!.

Many thanks.

no the dealer is thinking you've got the dreaded brake pressure sensor fault G201 like quite a few octys suffer from. you are right with the other diagnosis though it is a 'combi sensor for acceleration and yaw' without your exact details a rough price for the part is around £574.39 inc vat not sure on the location though. some say under the dash some under the seat

On cars after about mid-2008 this sensor is mounted in the ABS ECU - so you'd need the full ABS/ESP unit.

On earlier cars its a discrete item mounted under the driver's seat.

What does the full fault code say? I believe that a problem with steering adaption can result in this error. It might be worth doing more diagnostics before you condemn the sensor.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I can find very little on this g419 sensor. Car in question is not my octavia but wife's seat altea freetrack. It is showing fault code 00493 g419 ESP sensor. Any ideas where this sensor could be? Spoke to ECU testing and they reckon its a separate item NOT integrated into abs pump. So not the old G201 problem. Any help much appreciated.

Found it. G419 ESP sensor is separate. Can be found under drivers seat. Remove seat lift carpet and sound deadening. Hope this helps others.
