technical questions!

Featured Replies

I had my Octavia () aligned today by the guys at R-Tec in St Albans, and it is driving like a beauty now. The settings before were majorly out of whack! Driving like a beauty now.. Although one problem they highlighted was engine mountings, and I can back them up on this as it feels like the engine is shaking the car lol. How long would it take, and more importantly how much would it be for the mounts to be changed? Has anyone had any experience changing them, I do intend to get them done professionally as I am not overly technical and have a bad back so getting under the car is impossible! How much do you think it'll cost to get it done?

Have a read through this topic, I am going to change mine soon for these the THS Performance FR3 Engine mount set - Complete set MK5/6.

Thanks for the quick reply. Those are a bit rich for my blood at the moment I'm afraid so I will be staying with standard. I had PU mounts on my Nissan and I didn't like the feeling I got from them.

Oh, I was wondering, how much are the parts alone? :)

Different engine but I have these THS FR3 mounts fitted on my PD150 Golf Anni. Much better than OEM mounts with none of the vibration I had with the poly bushes. Feels smooth like standard but they are definately stronger (less engine movement and wheel hop).

Don't think there will be much of a price difference between OEM replacement parts and the THS Performance ones.

If you want the complete engine mount set from Skoda they are around the £150+ price. You will also need a set of replacement bolts. Are you sure you want all three components? I would inspect carefully and just replace those that are failing. Unless you have done a very high mileage it is unlikely that the whole set needs replacing.

Replacement is relatively simple, you just need a jack to support the powertrain and a breaker bar with some extensions to undo the mounting bolts. Ideally a torque wrench to do them up.

It has done 150k so I imagine all three are quite worn, so I would be looking to replace the lot. They didn't say which one was moving however.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will be getting it done by an independent though!
