another question about my car(bet people are getting fed up with it now)

when i get in my car and start it up in the mornings or when the engine is cold the fans are running.

what would cause this to happen?

im under the impression they should only run to cool the engine down. :wonder:

Is the air con left on all the time?

What he said.

If the aircon is on (climatronic says AUTO, not ECON), the fans will run no matter what the temperature is.

Also, mine sometimes spin up to full for no reason for about 3 seconds, then go off again. Might be some kind of self test perhaps. The SAI pump does this sometimes too.

just gone to check to see if the aircon is on or not.

when i press the ECON button the fans stop running.

does this sound right?

Yes. Now go to bed and stop medding ;)

7.00am - wuss, I start at 5.30am! But yes to above. The smaller fan comes on when the a/c is on (5 deg or warmer, iirc).

cheers for the help guys

would the aircon being on have any effect to the running of the car?

Well the aircon pump will draw a small amount of power from the engine (couple of bhp I believe). So thus a slight reduction in power and increase in fuel.

But it should not say make the car idle rough or anything like that - might increase the tickover/idle very slightly, but I can't say I have noticed.

I've noticed the idle is high when I start the car, sits at 1500 rpm for 10 seconds or so and slowly settles around 1000 rpm, this may be due to the sitcom.

The sitcom - what, eastenders? The idle is higher due to the cold start and secondary air pump which raises the revs. Nothing to be worried about.

Sitcom.lol how the hell did I put that. I've been using my iPod lately for looking on forums and it's not easy with fat fingers.

I'm trying to understand the climatronic thingy at the moment.

If I don't won't the aircon on I need to have it on econ?as soon as I press the antimist button the fans spin.

My aircon tends to be on Eco most of the time (which means the Aircon pump does not operate) unless it is hot, or the windows are misted up.

When you repress the anti-mist button, that is like a pre-set so it turns on the aircon pump, ramps up the fan speed and adjusts the vent flaps for direction of air (to the screen)
