Octavia VRS pre-facelift - stereo query

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Quick query - I've seen this VRS listed but the stereo doesn't appear to be a standard unit, can anyone clarify?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201103377649828/sort/locasc/usedcars/maximum-mileage/up_to_60000_miles/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/price-to/11000/fuel-type/petrol/model/octavia/make/skoda/radius/200/postcode/eh547de/page/1/keywords/vrs?logcode=p

Also, does this seem like a good price for a 57 plate with lowish miles? Hopefully going to see it in the coming week.

Thanks in advance!

Kenny

Definitely not a standard head unit, in that car the standard stereo should have been a Stream MP3 stereo unit which is double-DIN. The one in that picture looks a pretty cheap single-DIN unit.

John

That is an aftermarket stereo fitted, the Stream unit should fit that whole area and you shouldn't have a little cubby hole below the stereo. See what it sounds like, the only thing you will be missing, if it plays well, is the visual display from the reverse parking sensors which should have come up on the stream unit display.

Wind up windows in rear though

Hi

As said defo not a standard head unit as for price I was thinking of selling my vrs estate tdi on a 57 last month, details pretty much the same minus parking sensors. I whacked the details into we buy any car for a laugh and got a respectable 10.7 k offer. So in answer to your question price seems ok but I would want the original radio back.

Hope it helps

In response to the wind up rear windows I think there was a lot of problems around the 57 plate era, as a few people I know Inc myself received there cars this way even though it should have been electrics all through. I managed to get a nice cheque for 500 quid from skoda with a written apology for the mistake, cheaper than retro fitting later.

Thanks for the replies folks :)

Ideally I'd like the original unit back in the car so I'll use this as a bargaining tool if they can't supply it, which is probably the case.

Wind up windows in the rear isn't a big issue as it will mainly be occupied by my 6 month old son! Although I can use this as a bargaining tool too!

The description doesn't mention PDC, was this standard at the time or an option? I see it is listed on this VRS:

Thanks again!

On the first link you provided with the pics of the silver vrs, the picture of the rear bumper clearly shows parking sensors. Worth checking.

Kev

From the pic's you posted it has got 4 lecy windows, as i think it came with the jumbo box.

The first link says it has onlt front electric windows, if they were electric all round it would say so

The silver example posted has elec windows all round - you can see the driver's door card in one of the photos, and four window switches are visible

Exactly.

Never trust a generic Autotrader advert.

It doesn't even mention the rear PDC which are a very desirable extra- obviously no time spent writing the advert, just used the info that automatically comes up when you enter the reg number in Autotrader.

Double checked the link of the first car I posted and can clearly see the switches for the rear windows and the PDC sensors at the rear of the car - don't know how I missed those!

Now the only issue I'll have is the original stereo/screen unit, espcially if this should be linked up to the PDC. Going to look at the car on Wednesday so I'll let you know how I get on. If everything seems spot on I'll see how low I can get them to go - £9.5k anyone?! :)

Thanks all!

Don't worry - that's what we're here for ;)

On the aftermarket stereo - I wouldn't worry unduly. I certainly make it a deal-breaker. If the rest of the car is upto scratch and fits what you're after, then go for it. A Stream (or Bolero/Columbus upgrade) can be arranged afterwards.

Was looking at work while printing out a menu, reading glasses at home!
