Theoretically if someone were to obtain a disc with the v7.1 maps and the 3810 beta firmware, could the maps be installed without installing the firmware.

Would the ISO need to be edited to remove some files? Or do you get a choice when you put the DVD in?

What are the risks of bricking the unit?

You can install the maps regardless of firmware.

You just won't have 7digit postcode search unless you have 2684 or higher firmware.

If the DVD has firmware on it will it not update that as well?

Or is there a choice on screen?

The firmware and maps are separate discs.

If your getting them on one disc it will be just image files which will need to be extracted and burnt to individual discs.
