Turbo during warm up

Featured Replies

Hello, first post for me, but I've been reading the forum since few months. English is not my language, so be patience...

Lately I noticed that when i start and drive my car, for the very first minutes I drive very gently (max 2200 rpm) but I can't hear the turbo at all. Then the turbo comes out and it is queit loud too! It goes like that until the temperature isn't warm enough. After that finally the acceleration is smooth and less noisy.

Is it normal?

Of course I can hear this only if the radio is off.

Some info: the car is an Octavia 1.9 tdi 110 hp, year is 2003, and has done 130k miles. Turbo is the same one since the beginning (ouch!)

1 could be acuator.2 could be the oil you have been using to thick?? 3 oil pipe getting cloged and as the car gets warmer the thinner the oil gets... to check acuator take the vac pipe off at the joint and blow in it if your cheeks don't feel like there gunna birst then chances are it is leaking at the seals..

The turbocharger starts delivering boost somewhere between 1200 and 1500rpm on this engine. Even on a cold engine you should hear a whistle coming and going if you accelerate across that rev band with a wall on your right and the right-hand window open.

I will go to my local garage to check this, instead of consider only to replace the turbo (too much expensive)

Tonight with cold engine I tried a couple of times to push harder on the gas, and the turbo started quickly. But I can feel it's not as it was time before.

Thanks both of you for the answers
