Extension of VAT disount period on new cars after 31 March?

Featured Replies

I am really quite keen on getting a new Fabia VRS estate, and as many members have commented, great value right now with the VAT discount offer.

Unfortunately for me I need to wait a few more months before ordering my next car.

What are the chances of Skoda continuing this promotion for another quarter or longer?

Quite high I think, VRS not such great value at full price imo, 'austerity' measures kicking in from 6 April so we are going to have a lot less disposable income, loans from banks can still be tricky to obtain etc etc.

What do you guys think?

Cheers.

Rumours I've heard is that the VAT offer will defnitely not be continued.

If you need to wait a few months before changing cars then ordering now might be the best thing to do as it will likely be several months before the car is ready anyhow with the massive backlog ("black-hole") that skoda currently have....!

Agreed, placing an order now will still leave you with a wait for 3-5 months for delivery. A deposit of £500 was required from my dealer, and I asked about the worst case scenario which was me not being able to make the final payment for whatever reason - and he said the car would be put up for sale and as soon as it sold I would get my money back. Not that this is going to happen however! :smirk:

They will have to do something to promote sales. If it is not the VAT-free offer, then maybe they will bundle extras or bring out revised models. Anyway, they will have a few months to do this while the black-hole gradually empties. When back orders are complete, they may even choose rapid delivery as the next promotion - with 'Wet Paint' signs on the car.

I'm pretty sure the Fabia vRS will be removed from the VAT free deal. I think they've put it on this time round to shift some units as I dont think it was selling particularly well in the UK at its RRP.

I'd get it ordered now if you want to definitely benefit from the VAT deal. I really like the car but I wouldnt have bought it at its RRP.

if you go for an estate the wait is even longeer

still no firm date after order on 15/01/11

for a dsg se estate with extras

was told build week 21when i enqiured in february

email from skoda today no confirmed build date

did have a call from swift survey on my complaint

to skoda but i think its loaded at the staff not the system

did moan about no delivery date and wouldnt by another

vw product if it wAs the same ordering system

Looking at one tomorrow, might sneak in before the VAT ends and wait 4 months for the car, no harm done

OK, ignoring the tax free deal that is running and consider the normal OTR price, find any other cars, that can do 40mpg+, and only £125 per year road tax with 180ps performance, with the build quality, reliability, and the interior space of the Fabia vRS. Even without the tax off it still undercuts pretty much every other hot hatch on the market. Why not pay an extra 2-3k for the ibiza Cupra or Polo GTI then? same car but for more money.

Also consider on the Octavia vRS, Golf GTI, S3 leon etc the DSG is an additional £1200 for the privalage.

I cant see Skoda carrying on with the tax free deal. They have huge waiting lists, even before the tax free deal was implemented.

+1  the vat deal is finished will not carry on,definate stop  get your order in now!!

They have extended it a couple of times now so who knows. Something will certainly need doing to keep the Fabia competitive as it's pretty long in the tooth now and the interior certainly feels it. The new Fabia on the new Polo chassis can't be too far away.

Skoda have big plans with the new models coming out, new Octy, new city car, smaller and bigger Yeti and the new models look great, the interiors are a big step up so I don't think the Fabia will go back to full retail. They may offer other offers instead of the VAT though, reduced retail, interest free, free servicing, increased spec etc.

We will have to wait and see.

Cheers

Second logiclee - they'll probably drop the VAT offer but bring in something to replace it...

If you are serious get your car ordered by next Thursday.

You will have to stump up the deposit but then should have at least 4 months before delivery to sort out paying the balance be that up front, finance or a combination.

You may get a 61 rather than 11 plate.

My local dealer who is a friend, recons skoda were mad putting the vat free offer on the Vrs, as he can sell them at full pops all day long, if he could get hold of them !

Wouldn't be surprised that even if they do keep it on, diesel cars will be excluded

When actually does the VAT free offer expire?

I found this on the Skoda web-site:-

*VAT reduction equivalent to 20.0% VAT applied to the original base price including factory fitted optional extras on all Fabia, Roomster, petrol Octavia (excluding 1.6 MPI) and petrol Superb new car retail orders taken before 3 April 2011. Reduction applied to the RRP including factory fitted optional extras. VAT is still applicable and will be shown on the customer invoice. Offer may be varied or withdrawn at anytime and is subject to availability and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.

So at least it covers a couple of extra days!

VAT offer ends Thursday, orders have to be in by thursday at the latest so I was told. Looks like Skoda UK/CZ offer dealers a chance to shift some cars and get a contribution for knocking the VAT off.

Who knows what Skoda HQ will do.

When I collected my car last Thursday the salesman said they had no idea either way, but if they know anything no doubt sworn to secrecy.

My personal opinion is if there are no deals of at least 15% on at manual petrol versions and 10% on DSG, diesels and vRS sales will rapidly drop off and the factory will be slack once they have caught up on the backlog.

At £13500 on the road I consider my car was very good value but at £16500 plenty else to look at for those who can spend another £3000.

Without the deal I would have been looked at used as normal although if a Fabia it would have been a '3' with the old 1.9Tdi and no climate control unless very lucky to find one ordered with the option.

Plenty of bargains to be had

I guess they'll drop the VAT offer and bring in a 0% finance deal.

if the vat deal hadnt been on i would have had a proton gen 2

with free gas conversion/ full leather 3months back

it was only vat and road tax on the fabia that stopped us

if the vat deal hadnt been on i would have had a proton gen 2

OMG -sounds like you had a lucky escape then!! :giggle:

hehe.

I think at full price it is still worth it. But If the vat free deal wasn't on the VRS, I would have kept my mk1, I still miss the mpg. But this one still makes me laugh when I put the loud pedal to the floor.
