De-Cat issue

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone could help me?. Got a problem with my de-cat i had fitted yesterday.

Firstly there's a nasty smell coming from the exhaust which smells like overfuel, i have no engine management warning light on as of yet and my car will not go over 30mpg where as before it was a constant 36 - 42mpg.

Secondly, when i pull off at low revvs i get a nasty vibration noise as if the exhaust is hitting something. I managed to get under the car and see this, is it a clearance issue?

Any advice would be great, cheers

That does look tight. Having the flexible section there don't look right either, any movement in the exhaust and it's going to knock. My Jetex sports cat pipe is solid where your flexible bit is,so it clears the sub frame etc,and the flexible bit is after that.

Cheers for the reply bud,

Its a de-cat pipe off ebay, ive joined it upto the jetex cat back system :|

thatr looks very much like the one I have - the vibration you get will be the pipe rattling on the steering rack heatshield as the engine rocks when you pull away. I cut my heatshield either side of the pipe and bent that portion down against the rack for extra clearance. If you don't have one already, you will almost certainly need a stiffer than standard dogbone bush that locates the bottom of the engine/gearbox, otherwise there ius just too much movement in the engine for the clearance available.

with the fueling smell you do realise you will need to go get the mapped tweaked to make the most of it and stop any issues

Was it an easy job to do? I have upgraded all the engine mounts to the FR3 kit.

This is the de-cat,
