I finally got a new air filter. This one is those panel air filter models.

What do you have, Was it worth it, Can you really tell the dif. from stock???

panel filters are a rip off, naff all gains, just a slight change in the induction note.

If you want gains you have the choice of lots of intakes

EVOMs

ITG Maxogen

Forge Twintake

BSH Trueseal

amongst others

Pretty colour, nuff said.emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Just stick to a normal filter really, apart from you can just clean it and not have to buy another it offers little/no gains in bhp.At least you did the sensible thing and fitted a panel filter, and not thrown out your air box in replace of an induction kit and expose the filter to the engine heat :giggle: unless you do a proper fit.

I had an exposed cone filter setup in my TDI, and while generally these do not work on other cars, they work well on the Octavia due to a good flow of air around it at all times.

All diesels are supplied with excess air with the standard filter in order to make sure all the fuel is burnt.Any diesel engine not burning all the fuel will be very smoky. Adding a "performance filter" to a standard engine will gain nothing. It's only when extra fuelling is applied that the std. airflow may require some help.Removing the fresh air ducting to the filter will reduce the amount of air( oxygen) going to the filter as the air will be heated by the engine. The std. fresh air ducting directs cooled air from the outside the engine compartment.Cool air is more dense than warm air and thus cool air has more oxygen. This is the reason why air intercoolers are used.

well of all the filters i posted in post#2 nnone of them are open to the engine heat. The forge twinbtake is completely enclosed. The BSH, EVOMS and ITG have heatr shields that trap a high pressure cold air feed to keep out the hot air. That and the fa

ct that they are good for 10-20hp gains depending on state of tune highlight the fact there are no issues with engine heat.
