Favia 1.9 Diesel throttle problems

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2000(w) reg Fabia classic 1.9 SDI. The problem I am having with it is that when it's cold it won't respond to the throttle. It just ticks over and the glow plug heater warning light flashes. If you put your foot on the throttle and start it up then it revs fine until it drops down to idle then it won't respond.

When it is warm it will go all day long.

There is a plug down the side of the air box that if you fiddle with it seems to affect it.

Is this a common problem and is there a quick fix or do I need to get an auto electrician to look at it?

Could it be the throttle control module? If so where is this located?

Cheers

John

Hi John

I do fault scans for people.

Flashing glow plug light is a faulty brake light switch. As you have a drive by wire car, if you have your foot on the brake it disables the function of the accellerator. It's a safety feature.

So, basically your brake light switch needs to be replaced with a new one. I've seen these go faulty even if the brake lights are still working so checking the bulbs isn't a fool proof way of know if the switch is working properly.

As Baz says, this is almost certainly a fauly brake light switch. You can confirm this by checking that the brake lights are either permanently on or none of them never appear, even when the brakes are applied.

Oh OK thanks seems like a cheap fix... I will go down the garage and order a new one!

Flashing glow plug light is actually rather vague, it just means there is a fault rather than specifically the brake pedal switch. Though in this case it seems most likely to be the switch.

Replaced brake light switch and it made no difference whatsoever still won't rev up

And all brake light bulbs are working?

And all brake light bulbs are working?

Yes and the glow plug light is still on. I fitted a genuine part brake switch

I'd reccomend getting it scanned. You may be looking at more than one issue. And there's always the chance that it would be faulty wiring which is a nightmare to track down.

OK not the news I wanted to hear but there we go... They charge £80 just to scan it! So I might find an auto electrican to look at it or just bung it on Ebay as is and get scrap money for it...

You can get scanners off eBay for about £40 I believe. Grendon, Grundon, something like that anyway.

Or someone on here might be willing to do it for beer money if you're local. . .

Where abouts are you mate?

Probably not near me. But there's plenty of folk about with vag-com. I usually charge between £10 and £20 for scans depending on what needs looked at. Check ukmkivs and they have a massive list of people with vag com and all the locations.
