I've had skodas for 10 years now and never had a problem like this.....In fact never had a problem like this with any car!

Front wheels will move only half a turn and then stop as if the car is in a gear with engine turned off. Clutch works in forward or reverse-rear wheels are free. I thought it was jammed brakes- but how come it moves half a turn forwards or backwards.

Anyone had this problem?

Dsg?

Engine on/off?

  • Author

Hi

It's the same engine on or off

Sorry mate, but a bit more info would help. Am I right in guessing that you get in the car, start it, put in gear OK, but it won't move more than half a wheel's turn forward or backwards? How do you know the rears are free, have you jacked the car up? Some joker hasn't chained the car down or anything? :giggle:

Somebody fitted a limited slip diff while you were sleeping :giggle: you lucky sod

You sure it ISN'T in gear? As in, the gearstick is in neutral, but it's no longer connected to anything so when you think you are putting it in neutral it's still in the gear it was in when the linkage broke?

Hi Guys

Skodaphile-you're dead right re your guess. Also I know the rears are free 'cos I jacked it up.

Oobster-good thought but I just put it in 1st and it moved forward half a turn-I then put it in reverse and it moved back half a turn-so it appears gears are working.

What happens when it stops? (Apart from stopping :giggle: ) Is there a crunch? Does it stall? :wonder:

I think I may have solved the mystery. Did you forget to unhitch your caravan? :smirk:
