felicia battery light. please help!?

Featured Replies

Hi all! First post for me. I own a 1.3 1999 felicia. Batt light came on just over a week ago. When the revs hit around 2,500 rpm, it also pulses. Got the multi meter out today and with ignition off the batt reads 12.71v. With car idling it reads 14.25v , 13.57v with lights and heater fan on and 15.5v when engine is revved to approx 3,000rpm. I replaced the voltage regulator 2 years ago due to boiling battery and air bag light lit! Could it just be a new voltage regulator is needed again or something expensive!? Many thanks ;-)

well done for taking the trouble to try and diagnose the fault. the fact that it pulses is odd, it could be the rectifier circuit bust

Thanks for swift reply teflontom ;-) I must add that only flashes when no other switches are on! When I turn on lights etc, the batt light gets brighter but no flashing. Also, when I dip the clutch, the light dims to almost off. Hmmm. Just hope the car is safe to run until I get it sorted. Everything works fine and no other elec faults. Just paranoid the airbag will inflate if volts rise to much! Is the part that you stated somewhere different to the volt regulator or is it the same thing but diff name? Sorry, I'm not that good with engines :-/

Mine used to glow very slightly when everything was off - sightly different scenario to this. It turned out to be the regulator on its way out.

Many thanks richardsfavorit. I'm tempted to just order a new regulator to be on the safe side. Thought they would last more than two years though!? Then again, after 4 years of ownership, I think my car is a labour of love but I don't know why! Any other car would have been binned before now... ;-)

No problem - I think I purchased a refurbished alternator in the end, though the regulator is probably the best place to start for you.

Thank you again.

Check the engine earth lead and battery leads too- disconnect them and clean to bright metal and reconnect.

I'll try that again too. Cheers!
