turbo charger for 1.9 tdi.?

Featured Replies

hi all,

could anyone possibly tell me what size/spec the std turbo is on the 1.9tdi.?

and also what other vehicles is the turbo shared with.?

is there anythingthing we can do to uprate the unit? are these units of the vnt variety?

im assuming that the turbos are different on the 100bhp and 130bhp models? what is the difference in these turbos?

what boost pressures do these std turbo units run? and what psi are the actuators rated to?

thanks

i cant believe nobody has any info regarding turbo specs for the 130pd engine :(

It's a Garret one iirc, much more about it I can't say.

It is a Garret, shared with Passat, probably Audi A4 and A6 also. Seperate manifold unlike the transverse engines. It is a variable nozzle turbo so no wastegate, boost I think is about 1.4 bar give or take, much the same as the other 130 PDs. Turbos are different from 100bhp models, they im pretty sure use the smaller VNT15 turbo.

has anyone upgrade there turbo unit from there 130pd awx engine.?

Too expensive, you'll need a special build turbo. There are no other VAG car with the 150bhp turbo, that will fit your engine.

Even if you upgraded, remember that you would then have to upgrade the clutch to handle more power etc.

Not saying it's not possible, but the costs will be very high. Not to mention the problems being accelerated by the fact that the car is not build for high power. Things will start breaking...

I agree with what your saying.

im just wanting to know if there is a better turbo for the awx as mine seems to be on its last legs, maybe theres something out there that spools up quicker etc.

im starting to get a chattering noise and im getting a feeling like the powers down and the engines choking itself.?!

also the egr valve is leaking oil, i assume that if the egr valve is internally covered in sludge it will have an effect on the engine yes?

EGR leaking oil is normal i wouldn't worry.

The "chattering noise" i don't know what that could be.

A new turbo in Denmark costs £940. Then you get £200 in return deposit after the old turbo is delivered back.

im still thinking about upgrading to a better turbo, but for some reason there is nothing i can find regarding tuning the awx engine! this is starting to bore me now.

ive heard that the std turbo units on this engine have a weak part being the shaft. all im after is the possibility of fitting a better stronger turbo when this one dies. ive heard the "KKK BV43" is a good turbo but am unsure of fitment and how hard they are to come by.

i know its not a performance car but come on, no car can be this boring.....can it?

Garret are better than KKK.

Just checked this evening and my ECU reports back with 31-33 psi, equates to 2.13 bar. Standard turbo, 130bhp, 1.9TDi, AWX engine.

It's not stock being as it runs a Dragon tuning box. The car kicks out something like 175bhp -ish. It's been a while since it was dyno'd.

Edit: I have no idea if the ECU reads the pressure accurately. Keep meaning to get a boost gauge, but without a good place to mount it (somewhere out of the way so I don't look like a fast-n-furious wannabe) I'm likely never to get around to it.
