Felicia 1.3 Oil Leak at the top of the engine

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have recently made the bold step to purchase a Felicia 1.3, T reg, and I have noticed that there appears to be some oil being lost at on the top of the engine which is coming from what look like to bolts on the rocker (I think thats what it is called) just by where you put new oil into the engine.

I have no idea if I am losing lots of oil, but I can see that it is leaking and was wondering if this was a common problem and if anyone knew of how to fix it. I will attempt to post some pictures later if I am not explaining myself very well. I am not mechanic, as you can probably tell, and I am new to Skodas.

Thanks in advance for your help and support!

Hi

I have a 1.3 Favorit (that area of the engine I believe is the same for both cars looking at some images) and have an oily area around the right hand bolt in the same place you describe. There really isn't much there at all it looks worse than it is I think.

Mine has been like this for a very long time (2 years or more) and hasn't seemed to be a problem so I haven't done anything about it. Also the guy that works on my car has never picked up on it when going for its STK (MOT in uk)

I would be interested to hear about this too if it's an issue.

Comment not Skoda specific:-

I've had or seen this on a number of cars down the years. I'd check that the rocker cover securing nuts/bolts are spanner tight rather than just finger tight (try angle-tightening any finger tight ones 45 degrees), and that cover (including the ones these bolts pass through) gaskets are in place and intact.

The gaskets are quite cheap and easy to change. Undo the bolts, take the old seal out of the cover, clean the join and put a new gasket on.

Mine's pretty much the same, my Suzuki Swift before it was the same too. It's very little oil, I barely ever had to top up the oil in the Swift... Think it just comes with a minor leak over the years.

I plan on cleaning my car under the bonnet and engine at some point. Maybe if you do the same you can see more of the extent of the problem (if you can call it that!)

Thanks for the advise, but what gasket should I ask for when I go down to my local motor spares shop?

I had this problem on my wife's old fiesta. I just slapped on a new rocker cover gasket. Did the trick for me.
