Service Indicator

Featured Replies

I took ownership of my Octy II about 5 weeks ago and the selling dealership did a fluids and filters service, then a week later I had the cambelt changed by Victoria Garage in Maud.

When I turn on the ignition I get a chime and a flashing spanner symbol (it has always done this), and if I check the distance to next service it show a minus number for miles and days. Does this mean the car thinks it has not been serviced and that neither the dealer or the Skoda garage thought to reset the service counter. If so should I do it myself following the instructions in the owners manual or would I be as well buying one of those cheap VCDS cables from that auction site?

Welcome

If you are on fixed servicing (10k miles / 12 months) then doing it as the handbook states is perfectly fine, if however you are on variable serving then you will need VCDS or the dealer - personally I would return to the dealer to get them to finish the job you paid them to do. (If the supplying dealer was not a VAG dealer then it will be unlikely they can reset the interval any different to the way in the handbook).

If a car running on a variable service is reset via the handbook then the car will revert to fixed servicing.

Hi again, thanks for the reply, and sorry for the massive delay in replying.

That answers my questions perfectly and yes the selling dealer was an indy, and as for returning to them because of my need for an auto and the lack of them in Scotland that would be a 350 mile round trip so not happening.

Thanks for letting me know that the service reset will cause it to revert to fixed servicing as I was all set to go ahead and do that.

Just need to find someone local with VCDS now.

Cheers.

No worries

Just need to find someone local with VCDS now.

Take a look in the VCDS owners map for someone local to you, check their profile to see they are still active on here and then send them a PM.

Yay. It's reset.

I had to go to Victoria Garage in Maud today to pick up a dog guard, and I mentioned the service indicator, and they reset it for me. So a big  to Danny, Norman, Jackie and Leslie.
