Airbag warning light came on tonight. Felicia 1.3 1997. Never seen this before! Lost the manual, do I need to worry? I'm a very careful driver... I'm not too bothered if it's simply not working, but is there any danger of, say, it going off by accident?

it's not likely to go off by accident but you do need to find out why it's not working properly... need to do a diagnostics scan first really

"I'm a very careful driver" - So am I as a rule, but given the number of total loons out there, and having been caught out by an unpredictable slippery patch (official Police view, no charges were brought), I'd rather have one than not.

mine done this before(1.3 mpi xreg)turned out to be the voltage regulator on the altenator,when the light came on i only got about 5 miles down the road and the engine just died,as luck would have it i had a spare altenator in the boot so i just swapped the regulator over at the side of the road and got some pedestrians to give me a push,started fine and i've had no airbag light or other warning lights since.

With the light on the airbag system is disabled. Often on the Felicia 1.3, as mentioned above, the voltage regulator goes and you end up with the battery charging at anything upto 20 volts. The airbag system logs a voltage too high code and sometimes the radio will cut out. In some cases the battery gasses acid everywhere under the bonnet, with a risk of explosion. The acid and high voltage will not do the engine control unit any good, which could prove to be expensive and not a DIY job to fix.

I just tested the voltage while idling and with some revs and it's a steady 14v.

Is there anything else I can try or am I going to have to get a diagnostic scan? Never needed one before, guess I have to get this done at a garage... :(

no sorry that isn't true.. if the light is on it means there is a fault stored in memory, but the system will still operate in a crash....
