Octy II with Maxidot & Fiscon.

Featured Replies

I have just had a Fiscon Plus fitted to my new vRS but have a few teething probs...

The car has a manual box, so the Maxidot is the display only - no steering wheel controls, not bluetooth. The Fiscon connects OK and makes calls, but this is on the Bolero only; nothing on the Maxidot as advertised on the Fiscon site. Reading around on the forums for other VAG cars, I found a couple of threads that the car needs some settings changing to tell maxidot there's a phone system before it will show anything. When I browse MFD / Media / Setup there's no Fiscon on the listing.

Any ideas please? I'd like to go armed with a bit of an idea before I tackle the ICE fitter on Monday. I hope they might have some access to VCDS and actually know what they are on about, after all it was the local Skoda dealer recommended them. Apparently the dealer is keen to know how the fit went; now that the manual cars are limited in not having Bluetooth this could be a popular recommendation.

Couple this with the phonebook that was copied over being largely nonsense (HTC Desire, so may be Android's fault / will check with another phone shortly) and I am feeling distinctly underwhelmed with the whole experience. :(

Any ideas gratefully received!

I think I have made inroads into the HTC Desire sync problem... as a background ALL my contacts are synced with an Exchange 2010 server via ActiveSync Push.

My contacts were showing a mix of just a 0 for the number (and so only one listing per person where they may have several numbers) and the correct number for others; but no real pattern that I could see. In the end I exported my Outlook contacts to a CSV file to strip out any erroneous data that may have got created with the several test migrations I have been part of in my IT life. I deleted all my old contacts and then imported back from CSV. Well, at least it was consistent... everyone had a number as a 0 !

The phone had all numbers as correct showing, but clearly not Fiscon. I suspect this is something to do with dialling rules where a number is often +44 (0)1234 567890 but you see 01234 567890 - perhaps Exchange > Android > Fiscon has seen soem hidden fields a bit askew.

A BlackBerry is fine on this data where Android comes up as just 0, so not the Fiscon then.

Still waiting to talk to the garage about the Maxidot.

Well, finally got there with the cooperation of the local dealer (Sparshatts), who were very undersanding.

They hooked the car up to the diagnostics and in Guided Functions simply changed Telephone from Not Coded to Coded.

The original status would have been factory set as the manual never comes with Bluetooth these days, so wouldn't have been anything else. A bit of a pity the Fiscon fitter didn't know any of this... They did a good job on the physical install (v tidy and a light touch on the trim) though.

The Fiscon publicity goes on about SMS etc, but the MaxiDot functions are quite basic and just have call lists etc. Having said that, the main reason to get this sorted was to be able to put the Fiscon into Setup to be able to load new phone compatibility for the future. I don't make many outgoing calls when driving, so the few numbers I am likely to call are in the 6 presets on the head unit - about the same distraction as switching radio stations via preset.

Anyway, the sound quality seems good and with an iPhone 4 the phonebook sync's fine. Job done then!
