Air conditioning problem - opinion needed

Featured Replies

Hey, I wonder if anyone can offer an opinion on this. I bought my 2007 1.6 Elegance from a dealer with a 12 month warranty. The air-con wasn't 100% so I dropped it into my local garage to have a look at as the dealer is some distance away and I thought it would be an easy job. Local garage said it needed new pressure switch. Also, it needed a new high pressure pipe and re-gas (as the pipe broke when taking the switch out). The quote for the switch, pipe and re-gas is €510. At that much I figured I would have it done by the dealer under the warranty but now he says that it should only have been a matter of replacing the switch (€100 or so) and that the pipe and re-gas are only necessary because the local garage broke the pipe. That sounds like a fair point so I tried to get the local garage to do the pipe and the re-gas for nothing. Of course, they now say that it was a problem with the pipe and that it would have broken regardless of who took the switch out, that they've done this lots of times and that the pipe never broke before.

Obviously I should have just travelled to the dealer in the first place and this is now gonna cost me. But I wonder does anyone have an opinion on whether it's likely that the pipe could have broken when the local garage was taking the switch out without the local garage doing anything wrong? Thanks in advance.

Tbh the switches are easy to take out, the pipe shouldn't have broken unless there was a problem with it already.
