Shark Stage 1

Featured Replies

Well I had the TSI vRS Octavia remapped this week, and what a difference! Thanks to Ben & gang @ Shark for a great group buy.

I've now been playing with the car around some of the quieter roads around here, and this new found power seems to outstrip the handling a tad.

In a nutshell I find the wheels spin a little too easy in the first 3 gears (unless you're mega careful with the clutch / power), and under-steer has become the predominant handling characteristic.

I've read a few threads and common mods like WALK and RARB seem to crop up time & time again. Are these the best solution? where is the best place to buy / fit?

I don't want to track the car, and the Octy it is our main car for the family so don't want to lose much comfort in the springs, and I'm not too bothered about lowering.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would uprate the suspension immediately before your new power finds a ditch, keep your eyes on the for sale section here and on the mkv Gti forums for used WALK and ARB's alternatively JKM can supply and fit. haven't got them myself but I can confirm they make a difference.

Enjoy the remap. B)

There are have been lots of discussions on here about suspension mods, so you could find a lot of stuff if you use the search function.

As you said WALK and ARB's are common upgrades, TT wishbones also been fitted with good results reported. Don't forget that the quality of the damper will play a big part too.

I know you said you did not want to lower the car, but a lower car has a lower Cof G so will be less prone to roll and hence keep the tyre patch in better contact.

I tried out eibachs with (an early iteration of) koni dampers but then swapped for a good quality set of coilovers. Ride is only a little stiffer than stock but not harsh and the car is much MUCH better on a twisty B road. So much so that I've not felt the need for the ARBs.

Simple things to check first - are your tyres correctly inflated, and what make are they and how worn? **** tyres or wrong pressures will give you a wayward handling car which will be further highlighted by the additional power.
