No power to registration plate bulb

Featured Replies

My Octy Mk 1 has failed its MOT because the garage can't fix the bulb for the registration plate. They say there is no power to the bulb at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would imagine they would have checked fuses

Thanks in advance.

I wonder if what they really meant was they went to change the bulb and lost the bulb holder inside the tailgate....

If you have the car bac, I would start by checking the earthing, and after that you might need to consult a wiring diagram to see where the rear numberplate lights are powered from... maybe just a spur from the tail lights.

As there are two bulbs, is the other one ok?

It could be a break in the wire where it goes into the tailgate.

First check fuse F4 - this feeds the number plate lights.

If it's not the fuse then...

Does the LHS luggage compartment light work?

This shares an earth with the number plate lights and is the brown wire.

The +ve for the bulbs is grey/green and goes to the fuse.
