cylinder head & head gasket removal without removing the engine out of the car? How?

Hi,

Make and model: 2004 SKODA OCT COMBI ELE TDI

Question: After having removed the 10 bolts of the cylinder head (and stripped the front and left side of the cylinder head) what more do I need to remove before being able to remove the cylinder head and the head gasket? The engine is still in the car, and, if possible, I'd prefer not to have to remove the entire engine out of the car... But, how do I do that, and is it even possible? Seems like either the exhaust manifold, or at least the exhaust pipe, needs to be detached from the cylinder head, but that area of the engine compartment seems very inaccessible...

Background and problem: The oil tray cracked and lost its oil. Then the cam shaft broke in the jammed bearing closest to the cam wheel and one of the valves broke, that is, the round bed upon which the cam is pressing. As best I can tell all the other bearings on the crank shaft look fine, but, if possible, I'd like to make sure the piston rings and the head gasket are all ok.

Advise please!

Thanks for any help!

:wonder:
