Paint peeling off spoiler! :(

Featured Replies

I have a worrying problem with the paint on my spoiler. On the rear edge of it there are a few chips where the boot was open in a garage and I hadn't check the height. Whether its related or not to this I don’t know but along that edge the layer of paint seems to be peeling off.

Instead of the nice blue it is a much lighter shade of blue and is stretched over approx 6 inches of the edge. It can only have happened in the last week as I washed the car last week and didn’t notice it. Running my finger nail over it didn’t peel or chip any more off. The car is 5 years old and the wrong side of 90k mile but I am still gutted by this.

Can anyone suggest possible causes of it, and what i can do to stop it happening more?

Many thanks :)

Can't be certain without a decent photo to go on, but it sounds like the lacquer is peeling off. To stop it peeling any further you could paint along the peeling edge with clear lacquer, or if you're feeling more adventurous carefully sand back the lacquer and respray with clear lacquer. The alternative is to get a bodyshop to respray it for you.

I have attached a photo below, it is getting worse, and I cant figure out why or how. :(

Small holes in the paint and a pressure washer has forced water between the pain and lacquer at a guess.

The will need sanding back and re-lacquering by a body shop if you want it looking like new.
