Felicia Estate Nees Help Towing

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Diesel Felicia estate that I use for towing a a trailer occasionally. Due to the estate having the same wheel base as the hatchback, but a longer body, the rear bumper sits quite close to the ground when towing. Sometime this causes the towbar/trailer skid to bottom out when coming off speed ramps etc. and at other times the towbar will bottom out at the base of a steep slope, (e.g. a steep drive etc) when not towing.

I have seen rubber spring assistors that fit inbetween the rear coil springs and I may give these a try, but I was also thinking about some uprated rear springs instead. Anyone have any ideas for me along these lines?

Thanks,

Rob.

I've also seen air-assisted dampers and auxiliary air springs used.

Obviously, these methods allow you to retain the standard spring rates when not towing.

I have a felly hatchback which I use for towing occasionally and spring assistors have really helped. They don't effect the ride height much generally in my opinion but they do really help retain the ride height when under load.

Hi Ken & Ben

Many thanks for your replies guys. I'll look into the air-assisted dampers.

Ben, was it the rubber type spring assistors that sit inside the coils of the original spring that you used? or something else?

Cheers,

Rob.

I imagine they will be the rubber ones.

They don't actually alter the ride height of the car or the compression rate of the suspension in any way but they do stop it from bottoming out and compressing too much.

Thanks Guys. I bought a set of the rubber ones off Ebay for £16. Will see how they go.

Cheers,

Rob.

Realise I never replied to this. It is the rubber ones I have. And as Phil said the don't effect ride height but make a big difference once loaded up, seems to reduce the compression on load.
