The Great Funky J Sound System Install (part 1)

Featured Replies

Greetings fellow ICE merchants:D

Well at last my new sound system is operational after overcoming some interesting challenges.

I hope the following threads will help all of those of you who are thinking about installing a complete ICE system in your Octavia.

Mine is a 2001 model RS and I wanted to undertake a complete ground up ICE install. Interestingly there are not at this point too many people on Briskoda who have done this, so information on how to do it was a little sketchy. Fortunately my two friends Rich and Al are expertsin all things ICE.

So the adventure began on Friday evening just gone.............with a pile of new kit, which is as follows:

1. Front Speakers - Crystal Mobile Sound CSC60S 6.5" Midrange Nickel plated cones (150 watt power handling) with chrome plated bullet dust cap

2. Tweeters - 1" (Neodymium magnet)

3. Dedicated 12dB/octave crossover network with 3dB tweeter attenuation

4. JL Audio W6 12" Sub and Acoustic cabinet

5. Vibe 4 channel 800 watt floor mounted amp with 2 active mosfets

6. Kenwood KRC 794 CD/Cassette Head Unit

7. Kenwood KDC C719 10 Disc Multi changer

8. 5 rolls of Aquaseal Bitumenised Waterproofing tape (for sound deadening - particularly important in mr rattly Octavia)

9. 2.8 meters of Maplin Box Cover for sub and false floor

10. 1 can of spray glue

11. Autoleads Black Chrome Amplifier and speaker wiring kit (PT NO AUEG9-AMP20) 2 meters of zero point power cable

12. 1 Manual Control Bass Control unit (for adjusting bass bias and vol level)

13. 2 Meters RCA Cable for Bass Control Unit

14. by 3 meters of MDF

15. 1 Staple Gun

16. 1 Hot Glue gun

17. 24 bruised and scraped knuckles

18. 18 bottles of Becks Beer

19. 3 lots of Kentucky fried chicken

You don't necessarily need items no 17-20 but it might help!

We started on Friday night and finished it all by 21.30hrs Sunday evening (with a few breaks in between)

Part 2 will tell you more about what happened next..................:)

dont forget the pictures:D

Andre - on the edge of my seat already! :D

Will be particularly interested to hear about cable runs (esp. for speaker wire and CD changer

controls). Oh, and how you managed to get the power cable through the bulkhead! ;)

Rob.

We need pictures!!! Especially from points 18 & 19! ;)

I'm going to do this install as well .......................well perhaps not numbers 1-17 .................but 18 and 19 sound good to me :D in fact sod number 19 , I'll just go with 18 .

1-17 are much easier if you dont do 18-19 till last;)
