Emissions Workshop warning?

Featured Replies

I got the Emissions Workshop warning today when I started the car and it has remained on - the orange engine icon stays illuminated.

Its an 07 2.0 with 89K. What are the most likley causes and what action should I take.

Car seems to be running perfectly.

Just a note - the night before i had filled the fuel tank to the brim and also, it had been raining heavily overnight.

Cheers,

Chris

I had this and it was the coolant sensor which was cool as it was a £8 part

dpf fluid needs replenishing.

Sorry, mistake.

Have you had the car scanned?

Going in for a service on Wed morning so they witt take a look then. Hope its something cheap!

If the CTS has a black body, I would change it for a green one. Buy a pattern German one, not Chinese crap. If this doesn't clear the MIL (takes a couple of runs) then scan the car for fault codes.

The black coolant temperature senders all fail eventually as they are filled with hard epoxy which cracks the thermistor elements after a few hundred thermal cycles. VAG numpty design dept. again - will they ever learn?

rotodiesel.

Chris, it will be the coolant sensor, I did a how 2 in the how 2 section, go to GSF on the Eastern Road, part is about £15 and you need the green one, if it's blue its the wrong one, that is the fuel sensor, hth.

Check the EGR hose as well, if it's worn through on the engine cover this will put the light on.

Hi Ian,

Car in for service at JKM - they just phoned and said diagnostics indicate its one of the glow plugs - does this sound viable?

Cheers,

Chris

It's viable, but has the car been hard to start though?

No, starts with no problems. Runs well and fuel consumption fine.

dosnt a glow plug failure show as a flashing icon on the dash or coming on after its started?

Just picked the car up from the service. They did not have enough time to look in to the fault - but, the printout shows it to be fault code 17058.

Will book it in in a few days for them to take a look.

Cheers,

Chris

I found this on the Passat B6 forum Chris, the guy states this

engine coolent temperature sensor

Hi, i have an 07 diesel passat and the engine management light keeps coming on. the rad fan is also coming on constantly. i put it on the computor and it give me the following, engine coolent temperature sensor g65 too high and also a fault to do with the glow plug no 3, can anyone help?

I think it's possible the coolant sensor is shot, I did one on mine, and in turn it's reading the glow plug as faulty when it isn't really.

Ah, cool. Not had time to book it back in to be looked at, so may go for the temp sensor option. Where can I get one locally? Other thing - is it easy to change?

Cheers,

Chris

GSF Eastern Road, Industrial unit's by Ambulance Station, about £15-£20 make sure it's a light green colour and domed at one end.

I did a how 2 in the Supurb tech section, it's not hard, possibly a bit awkward, handy with a spanner will do it ok, levels checker ability will struggle with it tbh.
