Just bought a vRS - what about servicing?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just picked up my new (used) 06 vRS from an independent dealer.

According to the service book, it is on variable servicing and its last service was 11000 miles, but nearly 2 years ago. The flashing spanner symbol comes on when you start the car so I guess it needs to bee seen to!

Looking though the book, I think it probably needs the following:

Oil/filer change

Brake fluid change

Timing belt change

I am going to phone the dealers in the morning to get a price, but I am not expecting it to be cheap :-(

Luckily, I paid below book for it so wasn't expecting everything to be perfect!

So my questions to you good folk I guess are...

How much is this likely to cost me and have I missed anything off the list?

All advice appreciated

Matt

You'd be looking for £700 for a service, cambelt & water pump, brake fluid change.

Or about £350 from an indy and don't forget the water pump.

You say paid below book but you also said you just picked it up from the dealer and the spanner is flashing when you switch on.... was that part of the deal on the low price ? If you end up now paying for a service sounds like it will wipe out any saving you might have made on the purchase price unless it was a lot below usual price for age mileage... At 4 years as well as any schedule servicing it will also need cambelt and water pump done.

For all that? :o

Do share where, as they'll get a lot of custom at that price! I coud only get the belt and pump done for that.

just what I've read on here. skoda or vw dealers have had offers on lately for cambelt for 299 or 350 with a pump. I would have thought an indy would be a lot less. I had belt done on bora for 200 from an indy and 100 for a longlife service.

Thanks for all of the advice on this.

I have opted for cam belt and water pump.

Dealers stated that it also needs the following......

Oil and filter

Air filter

Spark plugs

Pollen filter

Brake fluid

Managed to get them down to £600 for the lot which seems reasonable to me given that the belt and pump cost over half of that! I cant imaging an indy being much less than £500 for all of that and given the guarantee that the dealers offer on the work, it seemed like the best option to me!

Impressed by its performance so far :-) It has even managed 30mpg on my daily commute which is an 8 mile stop start journey and 40mpg on a 25mile motorway run. about 5mpg better than I was expecting.

Off to buy some roof bars and a box for the family holiday now!
