Felly going down like the Titanic?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers as to common areas for water ingress in the felicia estate(other than the front windscreen).

Bought the car a few weeks ago and I'm judging from all the water leaks that the seals are all original after 100k miles.

Water seems to collect in the little trough under the boot carpet, and secondly in the offside boot stowage compartment (behind the cover).

Not only this but I had a feel around the insulation in the front footwells and the passenger side is dry as a bone whereas a small patch of the driver's side is a tiny bit damp, but not wet.

I should add that there aren't any holes or anything in the bodywork, other than the boot, which is shot and needs replacing, but the boot seals seem good.

Naturally, the sunroof leaks too, quite badly - but am I right in thinking that it's just sealed with sealing tape? I looked on the part diagrams on VAG boards, and I couldnt see any seals or anything, just tape.

Sorry to ask so much, but I thought someone would know of particular trouble spots, as I can't seem to concretely indentify the source of any of the leaks.

Cheers guys,

JJ

I found that the Favorit leaked in the boot when there were problems with the seal / rust around the rear screen. The Felicia's were improved to combat this problem although it might occur if there is rust around your boot.

If yours has a sunroof it could be leaking in two places. The first is around the rubber seal which presses against the glass, if you clean it this might help solve it. Alternatively it will be the seal around the edge of the roof. This is held in by a load of screws behind the plastic seal around the roof on the inside. Once released, re-seal underneath the metal.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. Took the sunroof to bits and removed its rubber seal and it's housing. They were full of what can only be described as a sandy, muddy residue. Cleaned all this out, washed the car today and so far, no leaks, although I suspect only a good few days of solid rain will truly tell me if there are still any leaks. The tailgate still wants rather badly replacing, but again, no leaks yet, possibly because I smothered it overexuberantly in duct tape.
