Xenon headlights too high?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone  ,

I'm new here so apologies if this thread is in the wrong spot or it is a question that has already been answered. I tried searching but came up nothing.

Anyway, I picked up a 58 reg Octavia VRS at the weekend. All is well with it and I'm dead chuffed with it. However, driving home for the first time at night last night I noticed that my near side headlight beam seems to be a little high. When you start the car you get the self test but when driving it the beam seems to go in to cars that I am over taking.

The best way I can possibly describe it is that when parked up against a wall, the headlight beam looks like this... \--

I know that the beam should be higher on the kerb side for illuminating road signs etc but I'm concerned that its just a little too high. Maybe I need to over take quicker!

Any help would be appreciated

Steve

Did you buy it from a dealer?

If so take it back and ask them to check it

It needs a VCDS to adjust it

You'll need a beam setter and VCDS or VAS to set the levels, If you're on good terms with your dealer, Ask them if they'd check/adjust the levels for you!

Worse case scenario is they'd charge you a half hours labour!

Thanks guys,

Yep, I got it from a dealer and have a year warranty on it. I'll give them a ring and see what they say.

OK, quick update on this.

Car went back to the dealers yesterday to be check out, while I waited.

After 30 minutes or so I was told that it was all fixed and that my car had been cleaned for me. Lovely.

Driving home yesterday evening and the fault is still there, my near side beam is VERY high still. To say I'm not happy is a huge understatement. I have owned the car for less than a week and it has been at the dealers more times than it has been parked ouside my house!

Car goes back again tomorrow to hopefully be fixed, for good!

Get them to show you the aligment against a wall inside the workshop and compare with another stock car, if its not the same then don't take the car. They prolly did'nt even bother checking it, which dealer was it?

Hi mate,

It was Beadles [insert obvious gag here] of Maidstone.

The beam was checked but I have since been told that it could now be one of the motors or sensors that are at fault. I now have to drive the car in to central London tomorrow and go straight there before they close to pick up a courtesy car. They are going to spend the day looking at it tomorrow.

I live in Romford so having to go back to them is a BIG inconvenience for me. As said, not happy at all!

No reason why you can't take it to a more local dealer, have you asked?
