Windows Fault

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can someone please help!

I have an Octavia 1.8 20v 1998.

About a month ago, i put my drivers side window down and it dropped straight to the bottom. After pressing the switch, it made a noise but the window wasnt moving. I took the panel off and there was a small black piece of plastic in the door lining. I wedged it up for now with a piece of wood. But, now its happened to another 2 windows with the same plastic bit in the door lining.

Can anyone help me and let me know what it is i need to replace as electric windows is one thing i know nothing about. If i take it to a dealer, i know its going to be expensive and pennies are tight!

Cheers,

Rich

It's a well known fault with the window regulators breaking. Someone may have done a guide on replacing them.

i replaced the o/s rear door cables, slides & guides etc on my octy the other week. basically, the cover over the motor is the worst bit to remove, as it is held in place by swaged over metal from the mounting plate(had to drill the heads off and replace with small bolts) Once you are into it all, its not a bad job.

Just a word of warning though i got a kit of a well known online auction site, for £10 including postage, and although it fit perfectly, it has failed again allready.

I got the plastic clips off an auction site as that was all that had broken, kept working until I sold the car. I had had all the regulators changed before by a dealer and I am led to believe they were a modified version. Didn't stop them failing again but the clips are available without having to buy the whole lot.
