The Great Funky J Sound System Install (part 3 - This Time Its Personal!!))

Featured Replies

............Right Part numero 3........

Next was the most important thing in my opinion..........how to stop mr rattly rattling.

My Octy always suffered with major vibration as soon as the stereo went above about 10 on the symphony.

So to cure trim and door rattles, drastic action was needed. Anyone who even considers doing a new stereo install, should critically consider the next part of what I'm describing, as my car sounds like a totally new car, from the acoustic point of view.

My friends suggested that I scrap buying expensive acoustic insulation, as it is very hard to put on and not cheap. Getting the door trim off was right fun I can tell you.......

1st passenger side front. To get this off, first need to unscrew the panels. These from memory are held on with size 15 stardrive screws (could be 10 I can't entirely remember)

This bit is easy. Next remove the interior door light carefully. Then the fun starts.........To get the door trim panel off completely, you need to remove the handle. This is in 2 pieces. There is a seam running down the middle, which you need to get off with a small flat blade, in between the two seams, very gently, as the plastic is very soft and tears easily, trust me.

Once off you need to then unscrew the two hex head bolts holding the trim to the body and then detach it. Then you can pull the trim up over the door pin and access the door casing.

The casing is covered by a flimsy plastic and paper type waterproofing, which I tore straight off. This is just glued at the edges.

Next came the really hard work

Here is another pic, this time of sound deadening in boot space :)

Andre , you really are a tart , ........................I mean car tart :D

I did a similar thing on my last car and it was great to hear the doors thunk shut. - very satisfying especially as it was a peugeot 205 which are a bit tinny to say the least!

Thing is its easy to get carried away - i must have added quite a bit of extra weight through bits of dynamat and sound proof felt!

Great thing about Aquaseal is that it doesn't weigh anywhere as much as Dynamat!!

Yep, that stuff is almost as good as Dynamat and about 1/4 the price
