is the fix for this just to buy another EGR unit? any places sell them cheap?

any guides on how to take it off? ive searched but failed

Thanks!

Fit a catch can, stopped mine

TBH, that's nothing... that EGR's got miles, miles & miles left on it.. It's when you can see where it's been squirting out over the rocker cover that you need to worry... and even then, it's not a huge problem, really.. doesn't effect how the car runs, just gives ya a dirty engine bay and uses a teeny tiny bit more oil.

Thanks Rob

i took the throttle body off today to find alot of gunk in there, so gave that a good clean.

tried to take the EGR valve off too but got stuck on the back screw which to me is impossible to get at as there is another screw right in front of it, so gave up in the end.

il just keep an eye on it

Take the screw off right in front of it! They've got to come out any way to release the egr.

sorry mate, yep thats the one

Noticed under the bonnet was a bit oily the other day. Pulled the engine cover off and there's some crap around the part you've posted. Mine's an 06 so I'm told you can't just remove the EGR and map it out. Off to Unit18 in the morning so will ask Ali what he thinks.

Mines an 06 aswell. Please let us know what unit 18 say :)

Will do mate. There's deffo more oily crap round mine than yours as well. As others have said though it doesn't seem to affect performance or economy so I'm not worried about it but would rather get an expert opinion on it :)

Well Jamie cleaned away all the oil and told me to see how I go. He said it might have just been a build up and when I gave it some beans the other day it caused it to splurge out the top of the valve's breather hole.

Doesn't sound like it's much of an issue to be fair. If it's still leaking I will take it off and clean it out and see how it goes from there.

Well I do not belive a bad leaking EGR would not effect performance as you would effectively have a boost leak. What do you think is pushing oil out of the leaking egr? . Boost. Mine is leaking quite badly and is definatly affecting performance, i tried a egr delete but did not like the increased wistle lower mpg and smell from exhust. New Egr for me ASZ if anyone has a non leaking one for sale?.

That EGR looks very clean compared to some i've seen, mines a newish unit and it still has black deposits around the breathing hole on the top.

wow, an old thread :)

since starting this thread i did the CCV (Elephant mod) and can confirm EGR is still in top notch condition, CCV mod works a treat :)
