climatronic mind of its own?

Featured Replies

When you switch the unit off should it suddenly come on again after a few minutes, just gently, either the auto or more often the aircon, almost as if it thinks it knows better and thinks you have made a mistake so its putting it right. If you switch it off again then it tends to stay off. This is in normal driving conditions not misted up or any other particular issues that need correcting. Even when off outside air still comes through the vents gently, this is ok but what is not ok is the aircon sneakily coming on and wasting energy cooling you down when temperature is ok anyway.

Is it a FL model and does it have dual zone climate control?

If so mine did do a similar thing the other day. I switched the air-recirculation, from no-recirc to Auto (which detects pollutants), and the air-con came on. Or maybe it was in combination with pressing auto again.

I suspect it may be if it thinks it cannot cool the car to your set temp using outside air alone, it 'decides' to activate it, but will only do it if you are handing control over to it in some way.

Still not sure about why it would come back on again, unless it is for safety, since when off there is no fresh air coming into the car as it closes the flaps when off.

However, did have a quick try this morning with the auto button. It was already on Auto (reduced fan speed - left light lit), but with Aircon off. I pressed Auto again to get full fan speed and the aircon turned on.

So I suspect by turning it all off then on again (either by you or the system) you are effectively re-activating Auto, so the aircon comes on.

I imagine there is some link to the outside temp with regard to the aircon coming on, i.e. if it's warmer than 15deg outside and you press Auto aircon comes on. Just a guess though.
