Main beam alignment

Featured Replies

I need to know wheter the Main beams need to be aligned laterally using the VAS?

I have seen that the main beams have a hex socket ( allen key ,6mm)) for lifting the beams. I have seen no way to adjust the main beams laterally.

Any suggestions?

There is no easy separate main beam alignment on the Laura. You set the dipped beam alignment, and the mains follow that.

If you look at a headlight unit, you'll see that the lens/shield is one piece, and the reflector that the adjustor screws you've already identified is also one piece, sealed to the lens. Accordingly, if you reset the adjustors, you move the dipped beam as well as the main.

Of course, in principle, if the reflector panel carries projector lamps you could release and re-align the main beams, but you probably want to raise them by 1 degree or less, which is a precision setup task. Move them up 3 degrees, and they'll only illuminate the sky, not the road surface in front of you.

Thanks for your reply. My car has normal halogens for the main beam and projector lamps for the dipped beams. So effectively, the hex socket that moves the projector beams(dipped beams) laterally also simultaneously moves the main beam? Am I getting it correct?

Yes. The best you can do for more range is to replace the bulbs with uprated units. I'm not sure about Indian spec dipped beam bulbs, but the mains should be H7s, and they're easily available. The best on the market are presently Osram Nightbreaker+.

the guys at the dealership are not very helpful in these matters, and yes the mains are H7's
