Found it under my drivers seat this afternoon, haven't noticed anything wrong with the seat so where has it come from!?

Ta!

its fitted on the seat.

you might find another thread on this from a year or so ago lol.

Apparently they are a bugger to get back on.

figured it was probably from the seat, but what does it actually do? I've not noticed any change in how the seat feels or works lol

i found that spring last week aswell, guessed its for the seat moving back smoother,it looked to me like the seat would have to come out to refit, but as i have not had any adverse effects either i stuck it in the boot until i have the seat out.

Must be the time of year for these to fall off. I found one under my drivers seat this morning and have just logged on to see if I could find any info about it. Low and behold this is the top thread. Spooky.

Mine fell off 2 years ago. It's in the boot, but as the seat still does everything it should I've never replaced it.

I think it may be part of the seat height adjustment mechanism. If so, there should be one each side underneath the seat.

Ha. I had one of these come free in glove box when I bought the car :)

Always wondered what it was for.

As above; it's the counterbalance spring for the height adjuster. It helps the seat to drop smoothly with someone sitting on it.

Chances are the cast lug one end hooks round will have broken off. You have to remove the seat & drill a hole/make a bracket to replace the lug or just throw the spring away as it doesn't seem to make much difference to anything.
