18x8.5 rims n Coilover

Featured Replies

I am wondering if there are any Skoda bros here using the combination of 18x8.5 rims with coilovers on their vRS? Just curious if this setup will cause the tyres to rub against the wheel arc when turning. Thank in advance for your comments/suggestions! :)

I am running 8.5"x19" with coilovers on my VRS and don't get any rubbing so I think 8.5"x18" will be fine!

as in fabia? 18's are to big. they look awkward. i know this as i was trying to fit 18's on mine.

whoops, u didnt mean a fabia :p i have some landrover mondials for sale if you want to be abit different

I take it you also missed the bit about the OP being in Singapore?

yeh i missed that bit too! haa.

Aren't the standard FL vRS wheels 18" & 8.5 (offset 50)?

The Neptune 18 inch rims are 18 x 7.5 (Offset 51)! :D

Oobster, thanks for the info. Can I check how much is your coilover lowered to? (in terms of finger spacing between the arc and tyres)

I have been looking at a particular set of rims and it comes in 18x8.5 and 18x9.5. Good to know that the 8.5 can fit. Hmmm, not real confident about the 9.5 especially if the Coilover are being lowered to 1 finger spacing.

I have never measured how much lower my car is but I would guess at 35-38mm. You can get maybe two fingers between the tyre and the arch at the front and maybe one finger at the rear.

Not that I finger my car regularly though. Just on days that end in a Y.

It all depends on the offset of the wheels and what tyres you are planning on running. Im running 8.5 x 18 front offset 31 and 9.5 x 18 rear offset 35 merc amg rims both with about 1 inch dishes with 215-40-18 front and 225-40-18 dunlop sport sp01 tyres (gives a small stretch) and i have the coilovers wound down all the way at the back and about 20mm of thred left on the front. this is less than half a finger gap front and rear and i only get a slight amount of rubbing when the car is fully loaded 4 up and over big bumbs in the road.

Hope this helps.

not to sure how to post pics, quite new to the world of forums. If someone could tell me how to post pics il stick some up

easiest way is to go somewhere like photobucket and create a gallery. Upoload your pics and it gives you the text to enter in your post, just copy and paste.

Hope this has worked. Here's some pics.

g60peck, hot ride you have there! :) The rims I am looking at has an offset of 38 and I intend to go with the conventional tyres - 225/40/18. Seriously doubt I can even lower the ride to what you have cuz speed bump and crazy 'slope angles' from car parks where I live, will damage the front bumper very often! :(

Oobster, thanks for the 'finger guide' on the coilovers! :p

Thanks mate

agreed,looking very smooth

hmm... comparing OE rims to Oobsters 8.5" ET45, these would have 7mm less inner clearance and extend an additional 19mm. Oobsters wheels don't rub.

The offset you're proposing of ET38 with 8.5" width you'll have same inner clearance as an OE 18" wheel but it will extend an extra 26mm. Thats a lot.

Although there are several cars around with rims with ETs in the thirties, from what I've read it appears that they all rub.

Rob_e, thanks for highlighting this. Based on your experience, do you think that the rim design will prevent the rubbing despite having an ET38? :S

Digressing but @ g60peck, what suspension are you running mate, the stance is epic......

Good to see someone else with a dark grille( mines Black Magic) instead of coding
