Sony HU and Remote Commander in Octy Mk1

Featured Replies

Hi

Just picked up a very nice 55 plate VRS which drives like a dream.

All I want to do at the moment is swap out the old tape head unit and boot CD Changer for a CD head unit with aux/USB input. Ideally I'm looking for something though that will have separate remote audio control. I see Sony did some a few years ago with the RM-X5S or RMX6S remote Commander units but these appear to be HiR units not standard InfraRed units so are limited to only a few units (one with green illumination like a CDX-GT630UI head unit which is only iR not HiR would be nice).

Any experience with Sony kit or other remote audio control devices would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Shamus I have an Alpine cde 9880r head unit in my Octy mk1 vrs with remote control and iPod control. Very reasonable at around £130.

There is also a wired remote commander(the turret version that sits on the side of the steering column) A lot of Sony units had this as well as the IR pickup, the head unit will have a little blue headphone style jack on the back.

I have just spent weeks trawling ebay for sony stereos to match my MD changer and I also wanted one with separate sub out, rather than sub out/rear combined.

All I did, was paste the model number of each one that looked like it would fit the bill into sonys europe support page, and then download the installation manual for each one, this would tell me what commanders/changers/rear outputs each model has.

I'm not an expert, but may as well be, after all that trawling, let me know if I can help further.

Shows this unit, the CDX-GT630UI can have the wired commander, model number RM-X4S

Sony support is http://support.sony-europe.com/ just put the model number in the search box and then go to user manuals, each one will have the installation guide and operating instructions.

I think this is going to fit the bill, thanks for the links to the manual which details the remote unit as well. Now I just need to find one at the right price.

Hi there

How did you get the remote control set up, is this an Alpine accessory or third party bit of kit? The head unit looks good and I see on the Alpine website it mentions being able to link into a remote control but not sure if this is to existing/ built in steering wheel units or something like the Sony remote comander

Cheers

Shamus

Hi Shamus it's an Alpine remote control unit that is neither wired or links to steering wheel controls. It's just like your television remote at home only much smaller.
