Speedo, tacho, fuel and temp gauge keep going off

Featured Replies

Hi,

first time I've ever used one of these and not sure if this is the right way to do it but here goes. I have recently bought a 1998 Octavia 1.9 TD and the car is perfect apart from the fact that the speedo, tacho, fuel and temp gauge keep going on and off. There appears to be no pattern to it, wet or dry weather for example in case its water or rough roads in case its connection fault. Sometimes they are off for 5 seconds and sometimes 5 hours. I have taken the unit out and checked the connection on the back but obviously not opened the clocks up. Could anyone shed any light on ideas or at least tell me any other point at which there is a connection common to all 4 dials that could be a bad connection. I love the car but have a feeling it will fail its MOT next week if I cant sort this out

Have a look in the top of the scuttle panel just below the wipers on the drivers side, check to make sure the brownie beige coloured plug isn't loose.
