Some advice on a vRS purchase

Featured Replies

Been looking to get a vRS and have spotted one that seems ok. 04 reg with 50k miles on it, however it has not had the cambelt changed and possibly needs discs and pads. The car is up for around £3,000, considering the work required do you think its a reasonable price or should I try and get a few hundred quid off it.

cheers :)

very good price with that milage

snp it up

+1.

Even with the extra money required to bring it upto standard, that's a good price for the age & mileage. A lot of car for the money!

What colour is it? Hatch or estate? Any options on it?

Its a red hatch, no idea if it has any options. I am not familiar enough with the standard spec.

This shows what options were available

My car has a full size spare alloy in the boot (not steel), maybe this was an option as well?

If everything else about the car is fine then I think the price sounds OK considering you will need brakes/cambelt doing.

Turns out it has no MOT, no Tax, potentially needs discs, pads, a service and the cambelt doing. So would end up costing the best part of a grand on top. Given it a miss. The search continues. :(

Fair enough. The lack of MoT could be a worry. I'd only buy something that had a current ticket at this price point. As you certainly don't want to buy it, only to find it needs additional unseen work to get it through the test...

Best of luck with the search.

I just looked at their website. Pagid discs and pads all round for £168.21 inc delivery. Seems like a very good price to me.

Sounds like the right decision! Will be very difficult for him to shift it with no MOT/tax as it can't legally be test driven (unless it's stored on private land etc etc!).
