The "infamous" vacuum tube.....

Featured Replies

So, I know I don't drive a Skud at the moment, but I do have the 130 PD lump.

I went to huddersfield early yesterday morning and had a truly epic blast across the m62.

Conditions where perfect - bright, clear, sunny and crisp (ie COLD DENSE AIR).

After a little while with a few friends, I decide to head back. Coming out of Huddersfield, all is wonderful.

So I get onto the slip road, and get underway.......

Sitting in the middle lane, crusing at 60, I opt fopr the outside lane.......Mirror, Signal, mirror, manouvre and accelerate.........

Only I didn't.

Nothing. Not a sausage.

It just sat there at sixty, no matter what gear I opted for.......rev would move, slowly, but nothing.

Cue hair-raising journey back, wondering if the car would make it over the top - speed dropping to 50mph........

Moving from standstill called for serious forward planning.......

Called VW Assistance.........

Customer services where useless, wouldn't amend any owner details or anything. What a bunch of "insert your choice of expletives here"! :thumbdwn:

But the VW assist side of things very helpful. Mechanic/Technician arrived within an hour, and diagnosed vacuum tube fault - which had worn through!

Fixed it, and went on his way in under 50mins.

I was much happier and the car performs much better than ever before now.

But the question I was left asking is this - despite my skoda being non-turbo, isn't is ridiculous that designers didn't take into account friction between various parts?!?

Has the tube been rerouted so that it won't wear through again?
