I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO FILL TO NECK WITH DIESEL AND KEEP FILLING UP AFTER 40 MILES AND KEEP DOING THAT UNTIL THE PETROL BURNS OUT, DOES THAT SOUND REASONABLE?

It's the same answer as you've had on the other thread tbh. £25 of petrol is about 20 litres. So you have a 1/3 - 2/3 mixture, using guessimetric and beer mat calculation.

Even that ratio would have been pushing it back in the days before low sulphur diesel and pumps and injectors with the extremely close tolerances we have today. Back then some people used to put a % of petrol in to avoid waxing in extreme cold weather. That is not recommended today.

If you chance it and get it wrong you are risking a very big bill as opposed to the known cost of draining the tank and refilling with diesel.

If you've not run the engine, you'll get away imho just with a drain and refill. If you have already run the engine it's too late and you should get the system flushed.
