leather steering wheels

Featured Replies

What's the point exactly? They look great when their new and matt with a nice texture, yet after 40k of driving they start to look shiney and old....is there no way of stopping this effect?!

Why do we like them so much even though they don't seem to age very well....yet an equivelent plastic/rubber wheel stays matt for longer!?

Just wondering your views. In my eyes I'd want to keep it looking new as long as possible...

Maybe its o.c.d!!

Also I'd like to add I don't hold my wheel until I get white knuckles and it still happened to my fabia steering wheel!

They only go shiny from the oils from your hands, the shine is just dirt, clean the wheel regularly with a good leather cleaner and it wont happen.

Plastic wheels give sweaty hands, never again.

As said keep it clean and they will stay in better condition

Ahh OK thank you :-)

Mine was looking shiny and worn. I used some baby wipes on mine (rightly or wrongly?) and it's now matt again and looks and feels much better.

Baby wipes will certainly get the steering wheel clean, but TBH they are a bit too aggressive to be used on leather as they will remove the paint if you are not careful.

I just thought that if they were ok to use on a baby's bum they should be ok on a cow's!

shoe polish works fine. It may sound abrasive, but use it like you would on your favorite shoes and it'll be lovely ;)

never thought of that! :)

If you can't be arsed with all that advice just take some 40 grit to it. will soon enough roughen it up ;)
