NEW CAR! advice for one small issue though.

Featured Replies

After selling my brothers Fabia 1.4mpi, my dad decided that we needed another front wheel drive car for the wintery conditions

So we got ourselves a Felicia 1.3 estate Pacific Edition.

not really sure why it's a special addition when it has no equipment, it's manual wing mirrors and non adjustable seat base.

but with 1yr's mot and 63,000 on the clock and on a V plate with no visible rust on the body we are very happy with it for £400

Now it was evident after a short drive that it needs a new thermostat but thats no worry,

the only issue i wouldn't mind a few opinions on is the fan/blower heater. it puts up hot air and cold air on demand but the blower/fan itself isn't working? is it likely to just be a fuse or are there other known issues with e heater???

i will TRY to put some photos up this weekend,

NB - This is slightly generalised, so it works on any car with a multi-speed fan, except the ones with full climate control systems.

Usual problems are like with any other normal heater. Check the fuse, then the fan switch.

Try the switch on "full blast", and on the specific "demist" setting if there is one. If one of those works, then you need a new switch.

If neither of those work, check you have power to the switch, and if you do, I'm afraid you need to go digging in the bowels of the heater system to check for power to the fan motor, and maybe replace same.

I was wondering do seats from any newer cars bolt straight into the Felicia, the drivers seat is non height adjustable and also a bit knackered, plus i think the Pacific edition seats are really horrid! i want to change the drivers seat, do polo, mk1 octavia or fabia seats fit in??

fan could be a fuse if it doesn't work on any speed, also check the wiring plug where it goes to the fan as they melt sometimes, seats well anything will fit given a bit of time and a welder but I'm not aware of any direct replacements.

Some of the later 1.6 models had better seats and a limited height adjuster (well more of a small tilt really)

yeah i myself have a 1.6 with the 'slight tilt' adjustment on my car.

thanks for the replies. i only had say a pair of allen keys and spanners, so if it doesn't bolt straight in then i can't do it.

Just Got some toyo Snow Proxes fitted to the car, 4 165/65/13 tyres inc fitting came to £144.80. it's my dads car, but he's on holiday for 3 weeks and asked me to have the car all sorted, fixed up and ready to battle the winter weather.

i'm changing the temp sensor tomorrow and bought 2litres of coolant incase i lose any when changing it.

gonna have a fiddle around with the fuses tomorra morning too.

Then i will book it into our local garage for a FULL service as car hasn't been serviced in 14months(only covered 2300 miles though)

then it sound all be good.

i'm not gonna give it a proer clean this weekend as i don't have time, so will do it next weekend and get pics up. woop!

okay so checked ALL the fuses today, and the fuse was fine, changed it anyway and still not working.

SO it's not the fuse thats stoppping the heater fan blowing, it doesn't work at any speed on any setting. i'm thinking of just buying a secondhand unit and fitting that rather than taking this one apart. i will have a fiddle on sunday and see what happens.

but if it's the fan switch where is it located, or are you talking about the bit i actually turn to adjust the blowerr speed.

also the rear heated windscreen stopped working shortly after i got the car, again checked fuse but fuse fine. checked connections to glass itself. also fine. could the switch on the dashboard actually be broken or is there something else i need to check

Fan switch is in the dash, but you should be able to check if that's working OK by disconnecting the heater connection and using a multimeter. I had one Fel which didn't work at all, and it was just the connector to the blower motor was disconnected, so worth a look. Another was that one of the springs that holds the brushes on the motor had rusted away - replacing it with a spring out of a biro did the trick..
