turbo cooling pump after engine is off

Featured Replies

I heard it today! so I can confirm that it definatly does happen

after my service I came home, and parked, opened my bonnet to check for spills and leaks, and with my head close to the turbo, i could hear a little electric pump, and hear the sound of fluid around the turbo area.... it was very quiet, I doubt you'd hear it from outside, but it was definatley still circulating fluid

Aye, I can normally hear it if I stick my ear to the grill. I must look mad when I do it lol

Isn't it a pump to keep the coolant circulating rather than oil to the turbo?? If you feel one of the rad hoses when the pump is running you will feel the coolant flowing through.

yes it is :) never suggested it was the oil ;) just that its always been said it does this, and me (and many others) have never seen proof, mostly because like others I tend to drive gentle the last few miles to let the turbo cool (from having turbos was back to 80's cars!)but this is the first time I've ever hear it going!...

right , off to work soon, see if the new software update stops lumpy idle at cold!

Let us know! :)

It's still a little lumpy if you ask me, but it seems much improved! Smoother on cold idle for sure, seems faster now for some reason too, maybe just placebo effect of a service! Lol
