Currently sitting on the side of the m25....

Featured Replies

Well... Just had the vrs rr'd at eurospec in guildford, very happy at 204bhp.

Half way home and no boost, then the ABS, traction control and airbag light come on, then no response from throttle, pull onto hard shoulder and engine idling fine but still no response from throttle, dials are stuck where they were i.e 70mph until I take the key out.

I can bump the car but I only get half a mile before I get no response from throttle again and same as above!

Can anybody have a guess at what's up with it?! I had solid flywheel conversion yesterday but cars been fine since then for about 100 miles.

Arrrrrrrghhhhh

VCDS might unearth more, i.e getting fault codes off the car. Sounds like maybe the central convenience module has thrown a wobbly?

Looked at the fuse box on top of the battery? And the alternator cable?

Any warning lights on? Anything else wrong, like the radio and heater fan turning themselves off?

Nope nothing like that, just fault read and nothing, going to try disconnecting the batt for a bit....

Worked... Looks like the rollers spazzed out the ecu.

check the pedal switch is sitting correctly and not loose

if its okay then i would assume the pedal switch is giving up the ghost...

Did you use a code reader or VCDS/Vagcom? For the ECU to shut down your throttle it would have thrown a code.

Worked... Looks like the rollers spazzed out the ecu.

That is good news. It can take a while to re learn settings.

Hi all... Completely missed it.... Duff alternator, happened again tonight and pretty sure the late actor isn't charging the battery or something - very weird but I don't think it was the rollers. The fact that it hasn't grown up any codes concerns me but we'll see!

Hence my question at #4. When the sprague clutch in mine stuck open (briefly) I got ABS, ASR, CEL and low charge lights, no radio or vent fan, and fading headlights, oh and something like 20 VCDS codes.

hi mate, I dont understand this - are you agreeing that it could be the alternator? (lol late actor damn autocorrect)

Sorry to be more clear, what on earth is a sprague clutch?

A sprague normally means that something can only turn in one direction. I'm assuming that this is what Ken means in this instance?

Yes I think do, I google'd it and most alternators have a sprag clutch. I'm pinning my hopes on it just being a battery or alternator problem.

Sorry mate; I tried to reply earlier, and the fvcking Interweb ate the message, but yes I was asking about symptoms that are associated with low voltage in the electrics, and hence often with the alternator or its drive.

Superb ken thanks, with any luck it'll just be the alternator!

Looked at the fuse box on top of the battery? And the alternator cable?

I had very similar symptoms and was fuse box on battery fuse was corroded n meltong the fuse box. Bit my throttle was fine

Fuse box on the battery looks fine, haven't. Becker the alternator cable, going to stick a multimeter in it to tonight after work.
