Retrofitting Problems :(

Featured Replies

Hi gang. Im experiencing a few problems and hope ye can help.

Last month i retrofitted a Columbus headunit to my 2008 Vrs. Fitted it myself relatively easily.

Yesterday i retrofitted a Maxidot instrument cluster (sourced from Skodateile and fitted at local Skoda servicing agent). I also got them to fit a cruise control stalk (also sourced from Skodateile). What i thought would be a relatively straight forward job has turned out not to be. When i collected the car the service manager informed me that the Maxidot had been fitted and coded correctly and that the cruise control stalk had been fitted but they could not get it working despite them "coding it properly". I brought the car home and hooked up VCDS and got a litany of fault codes (copy attached) and managed to get the cruise control working.

Sorry if im not explaining anything correctly,im after spending all night on ross tech wiki nd my head is a bit fried :o

Thanks in advance

***Forgot to mention that the Maxidot unit doesnt seem to have full functionality ie it doesnt give me an audio or navigation option. Is there a way of activating this??

Clear the codes, then see if they come back.

If they do, then I'd say it's not been coded correctly.

Re the nav options, I think you have to code the radio to tell it you have maxidot, but either way it's just a coding issue IMHO.

Thanks for the reply mike. Just what i needed. The cruise control is working perfectly at the moment so i presume the steering column controller and the cruise control stalk are compatible despite the fault codes. Ill try your recommendations tonight and let you know how i get on

After retrofitting cruise in my Golf I can confirm that your steering control module is compatible, however it would need updating if you wanted to fit a MFSW.

I had a perfect result when I retro fitted my Columbus for some reason - car came standard with the original non-MP3 stream unit, just slotted the Columbus in and everything worked, maxi-dot sat nav display included emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Did make me wonder whether (given my March 2007 registered car was built almost exactly a year earlier) whether a Columbus had been fitted to it originally.

+1 - no problem when I retrofitted a Columbus to my 2008 Scout, no coding necessary.
