Whats the thoughts on this clutch?

Featured Replies

Evening guys,

I have been struggling to keep my car going on the G60 Fly and Sachs clutch kit I got off the other vRS I broke for spares earlier on this year. My original std clutch was ok but seen as I was swapping the Quaife box over and the clutch on the other car was spot on I thought it would be the same when fitted to mine. How wrong I was! Now it is getting undrivable. Ok round town and at low speed but come to accelerate to pull out on the Mways or overtake and it slips.

anyway.

what do you think to this?

I have emailed them and asked if they can do it with a std weight G60 flywheel too as I dont want the chatter. Is it any good? They reccomended this kit due to the power and mods I currently have.

Also

there is these kits from them too.

Interesting Billy, I am after the same type of kit.

I am inclined to go VW std G60 Flywheel and std VW VR6 clutch kit as these are a marked improvement over our VRS flywheel and clutch

Mark

Billy,

I would defo go with the first clutch, I'd be very tempted to stick with the lightened flywheel too....

The 02J doesn't get anywhere near as much chatter as the 02M box, mine isn't too bad and I have a lightened/balanced unitnon mine.

Either that or as you suggested swapping to the normal solid flywheel. Either way it's a good price!!!

I'd also want to know what the torque limit is too...

yea mate,

The sachs kit off amateurstuntmans old vRS was ace on that car but soon as it went on mine it has never felt right and a few month ago it started slipping and its got a lot worse and its actually undrivable at times unless you take it real easy.

The carbon kevlar kit I have been told is better than the sachs kit and holds up better to the heat?

I am unsure. the std stuff from TPS is still over £230. and you need the stuff to exchange too.

I have just won the top kit lol, £211.50 posted.

Might need to buy some bolts for it tho but we shall see. wont be fitting it till next year ne way.

I have asked for the std G60 flywheel, its a few lb lighter than the DM flywheel anyway and I would think better for keeping the car going on the overrun and as a result giving better MPG which for my daily un is what I need till we get a house so I can have a second car to use as the daily car and the vRS as the summer cruiser lol

mine has just started slipping on the way back from the dentist too (double blow). I think I will look to go this route, just emailed unit 18 for prices. Happy days

(double blow)

may go your dentist in future tbh :giggle:

I wouldn't, she's a tug

standards are too high my friend....

I had a lightened and balanced SMF on my Octy with a std LUK VR6 clutch. I had a little bit of chatter but not a great deal. I bought a G60 Solid and had it professionally lightened and balanced.

My car was pretty much standard and the “pick up” was much better with the above set up. I’d recommend a lightened one.

I've had a quote supply and fitted by Unit 18 but they say they can't offer any warranty due to it not being the kit for my car (I understand this fully). Should I have any worries with this set-up? Has anyone had any issues?

Cheers

Mike

Mine is basically the bottom ebay listing, works well with no judder etc.

Billy is it just the clutch plate or cover plate thingy worn out on yours ??

As I doubt the SMF is knackered as theres nothing to knacker if you get my point lol

dont know mate,

I think its prob the fins/ spring things that clamp the plate is weak. dont thinnk its clamping right.

I think I got a nice deal on the kevlar kit lol, shall see when it goes on what kind of change it makes.
