My 1st detail!

Featured Replies

Well, after a few months of deciding what to do and which products to get, i finally bit the bullet and bought a DA set!

I had the Kestrel DAS6 Meguiars kit, which comprised of: DAS6 polisher with 6" backing pad, 1 x 946ml Dual Action / Cleaner Polish #83, 1 x 946ml Speed Glaze #80, 1 x Softbuff 2.0 Foam 7” Cutting Pad, 1 x Softbuff 2.0 Foam 7” Polishing Pad, 1 x Softbuff 2.0 Foam 7” Finishing Pad.

I also purchased some Meguiars last touch detailing spray some Collinite 476s wax and a roll of blue 3M, I already had some decent wash and clay.

I started off by spraying the car with CSW (auto degreaser, road film remover etc) and rinsed it off, then i washed the car using Megs ultimate wash and wax.

I then went over the whole car with my clay bar and megs last touch spray then a quick rinse and dried it off with a waffle towel.

This is the result:

I then got the DA and the masking tape out! Using the polishing pad and the megs #83 i went over the car, followed by the softbuff pad, then again and megs #80 and lastly with the finishing pad. By this time it was getting late so i washed the car off again to lose the dust then went over the whole car with megs last touch.

Today i finshed the cleaning by waxing the car with the collinite 476s. It went on and came off pretty easy and it came up great!! I also decided to protect the paint further by giving it a coat of Guardx (paint protection you can buy with a new car).

Im really happy with the results, maybe after time ill learn more. My next purchase will be a snowfoam lance as karchers own is rubbish!!

The finished article.

Fancy coming to do mine :p

LOL, it is time consuming but the end results are worth it! In all fairness, im sick of my job and was thinking about some kind of detailing business, but ill need loads more practice and advice and insurance. Id hate to damage someone's car!!

How long did this take all together. I don't mind washing mine but waxing etc takes the time. However once it's done I'll be able to keep on top of it! I have been considering paying someone to do mine! Lol.

I started yesterday about 12ish until dusk, about 4-4:30pm, then again today again about 12 til 3-3:30pm, so roughly 8 hours. I think using snowfoam would make it quicker rather than keep washing it off.

Now its done and protected i should only have to wash it off and top the polish/wax up now and again. My added bonus is the guard x, that lasts for years as long as its washed with the guard x shampoo, and maybe topped up.

Nice work and thanks for the mention but looks like you got a good result there ;)

Are those wheels off a Beetle?

So when did you apply the GuardX? Before or after the 476S?

No problem mate, your cars always come up great so your advice is appreciated!

Yeah they're beetle wheels. Never seen them on a furby before. Ive got the original centres to go on too, just waiting for some more badges.

I guardX'd after the wax as i thought it would protect the car better? On a new car its usually the last stage. It went on over the wax fine.

Looking good mate.

Did you get any close ups of the paint pre and post polish? I'd be interested in seeing how well you got on.

You must have just skimmed over the whole car in that time span! What did you do for tight spots? As I noticed you have no 3-4" pads. It'll normally take me a good 9 hours to do just the corrective polish on a car this size.

No i forgot to take photos before i started. The paint is in great condition already, just had a few light scratches etc. i tried to get a photo of the marks but the camera wouldnt pick them up. All i was looking to do was lose the scratches and give it a good polish and protection.

Yeah i havent got any small pads yet, the only place i couldnt use the polisher was on the front bumper where the spots are etc, i managed fine everywhere else.

Looks like you have done a good job there if you fancy any detailing lessons there is a valeting company in my neck of the woods which are going to be offering lessons soon. Pm me for details if your interested
