Piano black centre console trim - Where from ?

Featured Replies

As the title says, I want to replace the more fake than fake carbon fibre centre console, ashtray and gear lever surround trim on my octavia vRS. I would really like to get hold of a piano black type replacement.

Anyone got any ideas on where to go :) ?

Sorry cant help, but you have just given me a really good idea, cheers

Glad to be of help chief

At a thought how about removing the items in question and having them sprayed in piano black?

Can of primer and some black enamel paint ought to do it.

I thought about spraying them but then thought that the paint might scratch off

Two coats of lacquer should stop that...

It's not a bad idea :)

Golf's come with sexy plastic bits like this  ... kind of a dark marble

As long as you take the time to prepare the plastic first and give it a couple of coats then laquer it should be fine.

Sand it down then give it a coat of primer.

A couple of thin coats of enamel on top then another of laquer leaving plenty of time to dry in between.

I'd consider getting a spare plastic surrond from a scrappy and use that rather than your original so you can put it back to standard if you want to

Tavia 4x4 once mentioned that hid dad's L&K had black marble trim as standard. He said he'd post up some pics but I'm not sure he ever did.

BTW those photos of the golf trim is actually real wood and is called mrytle. It's standard on the original 1.8T GTI and is awful. Most owners bin it and go for brushed ali (I did).

That wood effect made me gag when I took a GTI out for a test drive. I asked the Saleswoman what drugs the designers had been on :D

The 180's came with a much nicer faux carbon fibre style trim called 'gold net optic' but the brushed aluminium found in the Anni and R32 is the best looking IMO.

I've just had a look on ETOS and for the octavia they list the following dash trims:

Burr Walnut

Granite

Medium Grey Metallic

Anthracite

Quartz

Anyone got photos of any of these?

I have the granite in mine :D Had a choice of the faker than fake wood so went for the black granite, goes nicely with the black leather :D

If you don't mind rolling your own, I think Black Magic Pearlescent works well. And it's now available in Halfords. :)

No piccie sof mine yet as it's still a botch in progress.

thanks, is this some kind of vinyl sticker that comes in a large roll?

could you post a pic of the roll itself, even if not applied to the trim bits :)

as Im not adverse to a nice sticker set! thanks

Nope, it's paint. :)

Which is obviously easier if the bits in question easily detach.

does it need laquered, primered or generally fannyd about with?

or is it point and spray evenly and thats it?

i know the dash bits detach easily, but the coloured door trim pieces i think will require each door card off, and then detach from the back :(

unless anyone else knows how to remove them?

Grey primer and lacquer.

Agree with Dr Z above though - good prep is the key and a few thin coats is better than one thick one.
